We are a Presbyterian (USA) congregation located in Esparto, California, in the beautiful Capay Valley. Built in 1923, we are an old church with a new vision, a small church with a big heart. We are an informal, warm congregation, which welcomes a variety of views and beliefs. Whoever you are, and wherever you are on your own journey of faith, we welcome you. As companions together we hope to grow in our relationships with God, and to actively share God’s love in the community around us.
A visitor recently said we are becoming the “Inside-Out Church of the 21st Century.” We are striving to bring our talents and resources out into the community around us to enhance the lives of all our neighbors. And we hope to become the kind of love-filled place where everybody can feel at home, a place to find refuge, a spiritual home, a community gathering spot --to work, pray and play together for the common good of Esparto.
Kathy was the pastor at Countryside in the 1990’s and is delighted to be back again, serving as pastor since the fall of 2016. Kathy was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1976 and has served inner city churches in Chicago and Detroit, as well as suburban churches in Illinois and California, and rural California (Countryside). She has been blessed to fall in love with the congregations and communities of every church. Kathy got her Doctor of Ministry degree in children’s faith experiences, and helping create a community where children are treasured and nurtured has always been an important part of her ministry. Kathy is married to Tom Smith, also a Presbyterian minister and clinical psychologist, and they are blessed with a wonderful 21 year-old son, Ben.
