Easter – Celebrate New Life and Hope
THOUGHTS ON EASTER…
Easter is the season for white – white of holiness, white of all colors of the spectrum. People speak of this season as “Eastertide” which evokes the image of a great high tide or wave sweeping across the land bringing everything healing and new life.
Easter is the center of our faith because by raising Jesus from the dead, God gave a resounding “NO” to all the fear and hatred, lies and cruelty with which we humans killed him. But that wa not the end. The end is God raising him up to new life, giving a resounding “YES” to all that is good and beautiful and love-filled, to Creation.
Each of the 4 gospels tells a different version of Easter with different details remembered --one woman at the tomb or several? No men at the cross or just John? Angels at the tomb or Jesus himself?
All the variety of details make the story of the resurrection believable, because real eyewitnesses notice different things. It’s a bit clumsy, doesn’t have the ring of a great fabricated story. It has the ring of truth.
One thing we know for sure, is that SOMETHING happened. Something so spectacular that those who witnessed it were changed forever. Life was changed forever. Then and now.
